Celebrating Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee with Inspire

Published 13th May 2022

This year, her Majesty the Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. We will be celebrating this milestone across Inspire Libraries and beyond.

Many libraries across the county will be holding a variety of fun events that all the family can join in with. Children can enjoy craft activities, make their own crown, decorate the libraries with bunting, attend a teddy bear’s picnic and even participate in a corgi hunt! There’s something for the adults too, many libraries will be holding a special Heritage Café where you can reminisce on the Queen’s reign from the 1950s to present day. Plus, there will be quizzes, tea parties, and much more. Find out what's happening at your local library.

Don’t miss Mansfield Central Library’s indoor street party on Saturday 28 May! Drop-in anytime between 10am and 3pm to enjoy free and fun activities, plus special Jubilee performances from the Inspired Voices Choir and the Red Hot Band. The new library café will be open throughout the day to serve you refreshments fit for the Queen. Plus, you can enjoy a Dementia Friendly film screening of The Queen’s Corgi at 10.30am. Tickets are £1 and can be booked online or in the library.

The Inspire Picture Archive has a special collection of historical images of the Queen in Nottinghamshire throughout her reign, including a Silver Jubilee visit to our very own Mansfield Library! Browse the Inspire Picture Archive.

BBC Arts and The Reading Agency have announced the titles for the Big Jubilee Read, a reading for pleasure campaign celebrating great reads from celebrated authors from across the Commonwealth. You can browse the booklist online and borrow them from your local library to join in the fun!

We have also created a book list featuring books about the Queen and her 70 years on the throne. From non-fiction to recipe books, to children’s books, we’re sure you will find a book from your local library to keep you occupied over the Bank Holiday Weekend!

We look forward to celebrating the Platinum Jubilee with you soon.
