Our language is an important part of our local identity and there are many dialect words which are typical of Nottinghamshire. Language is constantly changing and often younger people may not be aware of such words and therefore some of these words might soon disappear.
The Lost Words of Nottinghamshire project aimed to engage local school children with local language and dialect. Natalie Braber, Professor of Linguistics at Nottingham Trent University, received funding from the Arts Council to carry out this work.
Supported by local artist, Hannah Sawtell and poet Andrew Graves, we ran workshops with local schools including Ladybrook Primary School, The Farnborough Academy, Nottingham Academy, The Dukeries Academy, Yeoman Park Academy, The West Bridgford School, Brunts Academy, Rushcliffe Academy, St Patrick's Primary School, Oakfield School and Eastlands Primary School.
The work produced by pupils will be celebrated and shared in an library touring exhibition around six Nottinghamshire Libraries, supported by Inspire Libraries and Miner2Major funding.

The touring exhibition will be accompanied by adult workshops in libraries. Click here for more information and workshop dates: Notts Lost Words: Dialect Poetry with Andrew Graves
