We are delighted to announce our first ever 'Adventures in Animation' Film Festival for children and families in Stapleford Library. Curated by Small World Cinema, this event celebrates our wonderful community and all things animation including creative animation activities, arts & crafts and, of course, a great line-up of films.
Why not take part in our trail? Fill out your trail card with stickers by visiting our activity station and rooms. There will be a small prize for each completed card!
We have a diverse and unique programme of films for you to choose from, showing in our Cinema Room.
10.15-11.15 (2 x 30mins). Repeated 12.15-1.15pm.
SHORT ANIMATIONS: We start off with a selection of short animations curated by the London International Animation Festival. The films are largely without dialogue and come from all over the world including Hungary, Portugal, Latvia, Russia, France, UK, USA and more. Suitable for even our youngest film buffs! This programme will be repeated later in the day.
11.30-12pm
LOST & FOUND
(Philip Hunt, 2008, 24 mins, UK) - Based on the book by Oliver Jeffers, Lost
and Found tells the story of a little boy who one day finds a penguin on his
doorstep. Although at first he is unsure what to do, the boy becomes determined
to help the penguin find his way back home... even if that means rowing all the
way to the South Pole! Along the way, the two experience exciting adventures,
such as battling storms and encountering a giant octopus, and discover the
meaning and value of true friendship. This gently narrated short film is
suitable for all ages.
1.30pm
OINK (Mascha
Halberstad, NL 2022, 72 mins, subtitled) - Our final film is a hilarious romp
for the whole family. Nine-year-old Babs dreams of a pet of her own and
is delighted when her grandfather gives her a piglet. She convinces her parents
to let her keep the newly named Oink, and despite some truly chaotic toilet
training, the pink whirlwind manages to charm everyone. But as it turns out,
Babs’ grandfather’s gift may not have been entirely innocent. He has a secret,
and it involves sausages.
This delightful animation offers a very gentle introduction to the ethics of meat consumption, while remaining light-hearted and accessible. Be prepared for a few jumpy yet fuzzy moments and much piggy muckiness!
Please note that this film has subtitles. It is, however, not difficult to follow the story even if you miss a few lines.
The whole of Stapleford Library will be taken over by fun animation activities - can you get around them all? There will be a small prize for anyone who does!
