This online level 2 certificate in understanding Autism is designed for those who wish to develop an understanding of autism and how to support individuals with autism.
This course includes the following units.
In this unit you will
In this unit you will:
Learn to use a person-centred approach to support individuals with autism, incorporating the preferences and needs of the individual
Look at legislation and guidance
Discover support networks available to individuals and families
In this unit you will:
Learn about the potential delays and difficulties in speech, language, and social development sometimes faced by individuals with autism
Identify methods and strategies that could be used when communicating with those with autism
In this unit you will:
Understand sensory processing, perception, and cognition in individuals with autism - This includes looking at hypersensitivity and hyposensitivity
Consider how to the support the sensory needs of those with autism
In this unit you will:
Understand individuals’ behaviours in the context of autism
Identify how to support positive behaviour and help individuals to develop coping strategies
In this unit you will:
Learn how to support individuals through transitions and life events
Learn how to maintain their personal safety, and how to access services, facilities, and employment opportunities
Gain an understanding of what it’s like for an individual to live with autism

Course cost:
The cost of this course is free/£342.
1) Free - if you earn less than £20,319 annual gross salary or are on a means-tested benefit.
2) Payment help available - if you earn more than £20,319 (annual gross salary) but are on a low-income, we might be able to help pay part or all of your course fees. Email: learning@inspireculture.org.uk for an application form or if you have any questions.
3) Co-funded - if you are on a higher-income, the government will pay approximately half of your course fees.
