About this course

This introductory course will help you learn about, and explore using different printing methods and tools, such as gel plates, hand carved blocks from India and stencils.  By the end of the course, you will have learned a variety of ways to produce surface designs on paper and fabrics, which can be used in other projects such as journal or book making, card making or patchwork. 

This course will:-

  • Help you to identify patterns used in printing such as symmetry, rotation, reflection and tessellation.  
  • Explore different techniques and layering methods to create different designs and look at ways to utilise waste paint.  
  • Look at the benefits of creative activities for good mental health and wellbeing.   

Resources required:-

  • Apron or a big shirt  
  • Gelli Plate & Brayer - if you have these, otherwise a set will be provided for you to use on the course 
  • Wet wipes 
  • Printing Media - Fabric or Cartridge paper or Copier Paper

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).  As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
