Certificate in Understanding Mental Health (Level 3)

Our Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health will focus on the study of mental health and mental wellbeing to support different occupational areas.

The objectives of this qualification are to help you understand:

  • Mental health legislation, services and public attitudes and how these have evolved
  • How to support mental wellbeing through various stages of life
  • Mental ill health, treatment options available and the potential consequences of mental ill health
  • The skills required to work in a mental health service.

What will we cover?

To be awarded the Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health, you are required to successfully complete 5 mandatory units:

Unit 01 Understanding the context of mental health and wellbeing

Unit 02 Promotion of mental health and wellbeing

Unit 03 Mental health problems: associated issues and consequences

Unit 04 Understanding mental ill health

Unit 05 Working in mental health.

Who is the course for?

You need to be aged 19+  to undertake this qualification. The qualification is suited to adults wishing to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of mental health and those wishing to progress into employment within the health and social care sector.

There are some recommended prior learning requirements: 

  • You should be working at a Level 2 standard in English
  • You may also find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 2 mental health qualification, or qualifications in healthcare or social care contexts.

How can I progress after completing the course?

Upon completion of the course, you could progress to: 

  • Level 3 Award in Awareness of the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
  • Level 3 Certificate in Working in the Health Sector.

Course cost and flexible payments

The cost of this course is FREE/£1530.00.

The following criteria applies to our level 3 qualifications:

  1. Courses are free if you are aged 19+ and;
  2. You earn less than £25,000 per annum (individual, not household); OR
  3. You do not already hold a level 3 qualification.

If you already have a Level 3 (full) qualification, but have an individual income of more than £25,000, you will be required to pay fees (for 50%) of the cost of the course.
