Yoga for Osteoporosis is a gentle form of yoga that is practised carefully, standing, sitting or using a chair for support. To introduce Yoga's gentle, low impact movements ideal for those with osteopenia (the stage before osteoporosis) and osteoporosis. To explain what osteoporosis is and how yoga can facilitate ease of movement. The course is also suitable for those with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis often experienced alongside osteoporosis.
This short course will introduce you to simple movements that will help to stimulate bone building, improve strength, flexibility, mobility and coordination. It will help also with reducing stress and managing pain. Relaxation techniques promote being calmer and more relaxed which inevitably leads to a greater feeling of happiness and well-being - all important for adults with osteoporosis.
Your 'approach' to yoga and 'how' you practise will also help you to develop an increased level of awareness, which in turn will lead to practising with an increased attentiveness to your body - getting to know yourself by listening to your body's feedback and responding appropriately.
The course is suitable for all ages, for beginners and those who already practise yoga. Each week there is a simple, step by step guided practice where we work on a variety of postures which are adapted and modified. The practices and techniques include slow, gentle, straightforward movements; breathing techniques and relaxation.
Resources required by attendees:
