The course guides you through creating an expressive winter scenery composition in acrylics. The course will help you to become more confident using acrylics, with tuition provided through a mixture of demonstrations and exercises according to your needs. By the end of this course, you will have created a painting that reflects your unique artistic voice and a newfound confidence in your ability to create a painting with a contemporary flair. You will complete at least one work on canvas, and have fun experimenting with the palette knife and become more confident in using acrylics.
This course focuses on the urban landscape theme based on the constant construction and deconstruction of the elements:
- Select appropriate photo references
- Analyse examples of winter paintings in the work of different artists
- Use different tools to create mark-making
- Colour mixing, saturated versus non saturated colours
- Sketching
- Painting technique
Resources required:
Acrylic paper/sketch pad, A4 canvas, white gesso, a range of synthetic paint brushes, photo reference, metallic palette knife, acrylic paint (student grade):
- Red (Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red,
- Yellow (Lemon and Cadmiun Yellow),
- Blue (Ultramarine, and Cerulean),
- Magenta
- Turquoise
- Titanium white
The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.
