About this course

We are currently experiencing a devastating loss in global biodiversity. This course aims to highlight why biodiversity is at such a loss and looks at ways in which we can minimize our impact on the natural world.

The course will offer solutions, which aim to improve biodiversity at a local level, both in our own gardens and in surrounding greenspaces. We also explore how our choices could help improve biodiversity on a global scale.

We will look at what is meant by the term rewilding, understanding its origins and perceived benefits and how it differs from modern conservation techniques.

This course is programmed as part of the Greenwood Community Forest Project.

This course will introduce the learner to the biological diversity that surrounds us and look at the many ways in which we can encourage wildlife into our gardens and open spaces.

We will look specifically at the following;

Gardening for Birds, Gardening for Butterflies, Creating a wildlife pond, Gardening for invertebrates.

We will also look at creating habitats, such as woodland, hedgerow and meadow, for larger areas of land.

We will offer a variety of different techniques and approaches that enhance the wildlife potential of your sites.

By the end of this course, you will be able to identify;

• 3 Habitat types suitable for including in the garden.

• 3 different plant and animal groups that frequent our gardens, how to encourage them and have an understanding of why gardens are important to wildlife.
