About this course

This course is an intermediate course designed to introduce learners to magnolia sugarcraft flowers. You will produce a magnolia flower to enhance any special occasion cake with step-by-step instructions.  


 By the end of the course, you will be able to: 


• Produce the petals for the magnolia flower adding texture and realism  


• Produce the centre for the magnolia 


• Learn how to dust the flower to add dimension 


Learners will produce a magnolia to enhance any special occasion or celebration cake. Some previous experience of sugar craft will be required to attend the course. 


Resources required by attendees:

  • Florist sugar paste by squires- white, light green paste.  
  • Corn flour dapper  
  • Board or veining board. 
  • Rolling pin  
  • 2 different sizes of petals for magnolia, one smaller one larger, or just one size petal personal preference.  
  • 18-gauge wire centre  
  • 24-gauge wire petals  
  • Foam mat- Foam cell pad.  
  • Multi-purpose veiner or magnolia veiner  
  • Floral tape brown for the branch. White tape or white cotton for the centre. 
  • Ball tool  
  • Dresden tool  
  • Tweezer 
  • Embroidery scissors or fine scissors 
  • Wheel tool to score the sides of the centre of the magnolia.  
  • Spoons for drying or foam or foil.  
  • Dusting powder:  Fuchsia and red colour and  centre. Green and yellow.  
  • Edible glue  
  • Cocktail stick.  
  • Brushes. 
  • Note pad and pen.
