About this course

This course is a beginner’s course designed to introduce you to Christmas sugar craft flowers. You will produce a small display of sugar flowers to enhance any Christmas cake with step-by-step instructions. Flower and foliage will include a Christmas rose, holly and ivy.  


By the end of the course, you will have produced a Christmas rose flower with foliage: holly and Ivy to enhance any Christmas celebration cake.  


You will be able to: 

• Produce the petals for the Christmas rose adding texture and realism  

• Produce the stamens for the centre of the Christmas rose 

• Produce the ivy for foliage 

• Produce the holly for foliage 

• Learn how to dust the flower to add dimension  

• Learn how to tape together to create a display for a cake 


Resources required:

  • Florist sugar paste by squires- white  
  • Corn flour dapper  
  • Rolling pin  
  • Single petal rose cutter or a five-petal cutter (then cut)  
  • Holly cutter 
  • Ivy cutter  
  • 24-gauge wire 
  • Foam mat- Foam cell pad  
  • Multi-purpose veiner 
  • Floral tape 
  • Ball tool  
  • Dresden tool  
  • Calyx cutter 
  • Green colouring 
  • Green dusting powder  
  • Yellow dusting powder  
  • Edible tints- green, brown, and yellow     
  • Edible glue  
  • Cocktail stick  
  • Shallow Dish- apple plastic tray  
  • White stamens (dust them yellow) or yellow stamens or use white cotton thread for Wired Christmas rose. 
  • Note pad and pen.
