About this course

The course has been created to show you how gestural brush-strokes and mark-making gives the impression of spontaneity in your compositions. You will benefit from this course as your style of painting will become looser, full of energy and colour. Experiment the pure joy of mark-making by playing with colour and texture using non-traditional tools to achieve an intuitive landscape painting in a semi-abstract style.

On this course, you will learn how to use quick and bold marks with thick paint to create expressive landscapes in acrylics. We will explore how shadow and light patterns can really help to give perspective and how this information can be used to create the atmosphere of an semi-abstracted landscape.

We will cover:

  • Artist research: Soraya French & Craig Penny
  • Working out innovative, dynamic compositions
  • Using a bright, colourful palette, with dynamic and bold mark making
  • Painting techniques: impasto, scumbling, sgrafitto and blending
  • Complete a  painting in the semi-abstract style
  • Protect your painting by varnishing it

Resources required:
