About this course

In Multi-block lino printing several blocks are used to create one print. Each block is cut with a different element of the overall design and inked in a different colour, then printed over the top of each other to create a multicolour print. It is an ideal process for printmakers with some experience, who are interested in an image with more clarity and freedom to experiment than reduction lino. It is also suitable for beginners as the design can be tailored to individual needs.

During the course you will be introduced to the design process needed to make your separate blocks and how to ink and register your blocks when printing. You can experiment with a range of different colourways and exploit the fact that you can print one colour over another to build complexity in the image.

You will learn and explore the process through looking at and discussing other printmakers work and by demonstrations, personal experimentation and individual tuition on how to design, cut and print your image onto paper.

By the end of the course everyone will have produced professional printed images to sell or give as gifts.

By the end of the course, you will:

  • Be able to design, cut and print an effective multiblock lino print.
  • Be able to experiment with different colourways to create a series of prints.
