About this course

The course focuses on its theme of the nature. The principles of drawing and painting are  

progressively practiced with techniques. You will discover how to apply contrast, colour theory, and tonal values to create beautiful expressive compositions using vigorous brushstrokes.    The course guides you through the process of creating an expressive compositions in acrylics. The course will help you to become more confident using acrylics, with tuition provided through a mixture of demonstrations and exercises according to your needs..  

The course is suitable for beginners. 

This course focuses on the  nature theme based on the landscape – trees, skies, water reflection : 

  • Select appropriate photo references 
  • Analyse examples of winter paintings in the work of different artists 
  • Use different tools to create mark-making 
  • Colour mixing: saturated versus non saturated colours 
  • Sketching  
  • Painting technique 

By the end of this course, you will have created a painting that reflect your unique artistic voice and a newfound confidence in your ability to create a painting with a contemporary flair. Learners will complete at least one work on canvas. They will have fun by experimenting with the palette knife and become more confident in using acrylics. 


Resources required by attendees:

  • Acrylic paper/sketch pad, A4 canvas, white gesso, a range of synthetic paint brushes, photo reference, metallic palette knife, acrylic paint (student grade) 
  • Red (Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red,  
  • Yellow (Lemon and Cadmiun Yellow),  
  • Blue (Ultramarine, and Cerulean),  
  • Magenta , Turquoise, Titanium white 

The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.
