About this course

This half day course is designed for adults who want to take better portrait photographs. It is aimed at beginners or near-beginners. The session will be biased more toward the creative rather than the technical, and be task based rather than theoretical. No Previous skills required.

By the end of this course you will have increased confidence and the ability to take better photographs of people, using your own camera. We will cover:

  • A brief overview of photographic portrait photography and photographers
  • Posed vs. Unposed
  • How zoom affects portraits
  • How to make people look bigger or smaller
  • Using available light- ‘Short’ and ‘Broad’ lighting
  • Basic camera settings for improving your photography
  • Why flash can be bad news
  • Low cost backgrounds

You will need:

  • A working digital camera.  Learners can do this workshop with a mobile phone camera, but it is more suitable for those with DSLR/mirrorless/compact cameras.
  • Pen and paper to take notes.

Please note there will be a 30 min lunch break.
