About this course

Discover the vibrant world of acrylic painting with our "Painting à la Van Gogh" course, designed specifically for beginners. This course is your gateway to mastering the techniques of one of history's most celebrated artists, Vincent van Gogh. Over a series of engaging face-to-face sessions, you will explore Van Gogh's unique style, characterised by bold colours, dynamic brushstrokes, and expressive compositions.

You will be guided step-by-step in order to build your skills and confidence, focusing on subjects like colour mixing, painting techniques and :

Van Gogh style of painting research
Colour mixing and composition studies
Surface preparation and sketching
Painting techniques: impasto
Complete a painting in the style of the artist
Protect your painting by varnishing it

By the end of the course learners will complete at least one work on canvas. They will have fun by experimenting with the palette knife and become more confident in using acrylics.

Resources required by attendees:

Acrylic paper/sketch pad, A4 canvas, white gesso, a range of synthetic paint brushes, photo reference, metallic palette knife, acrylic paint (student grade)
Red (Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red,
Yellow (Lemon and Cadmiun Yellow),
Blue (Ultramarine, and Cerulean),
Magenta , Turquoise, Titanium white

The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.
