About this course

Discover the vibrant world of acrylic painting with our "Painting à la Gauguin" course, experimenting with new color theories and a semi-decorative approaches to painting. Gauguin pioneered the Symbolist art movement in France and set the stage for Fauvism and Expressionism. This course is your gateway to mastering the techniques of one of history's most celebrated artists, Gauguin. Over a series of engaging face-to-face sessions, you will explore Gauguin's unique style, characterised by bold colours, dynamic brushstrokes, and expressive compositions.

Gauguin developed a new style that married everyday observation with mystical symbolism, a style strongly influenced by the popular, so-called "primitive" arts of Africa, Asia, and French Polynesia. Your will be guided step-by-step in order to build your skills and confidence, focusing on subjects like colour mixing, painting techniques and understanding the symbolism style of painting:

  • Artist research
  • Colour mixing and composition studies
  • Surface preparation and sketching
  • Painting techniques: layering and glazing
  • Complete a  painting in the style of the artist
  • Protect your painting by varnishing it
