About this course

The Mixed Media Printmaking course is ideal for those who like to experiment, whilst learning new processes. You will be introduced to the processes of collagraph printing and colour monoprinting and then learn how these can be combined effectively to produce imaginative, creative, one off prints. Suitable for beginners and those with previous experience of printmaking as teaching is tailored to individual starting points.

During the course you will be introduced to the colour monoprinting and botanical monoprinting technique  which will form the background of your image. You will then make collagraph plates and learn how to print these successfully before combining these with your initial monoprinted images.

You will learn and explore both these processes through looking at and discussing other printmakers who have explored the processes individually or in combination in their work and by demonstrations and personal experimentation. You will receive individual tuition on how to select print source materials, how to compose your work, mix inks and print your images.

By the end of the course everyone will have produced some good quality, finished prints to mount and exhibit or to give as gifts.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Discuss how other printmakers have created their monoprints and collagraphs.
  • Select source materials (drawings and photographs) to use as starting points for print.
  • Use printmaking equipment and the press safely.
  • Mix and use water soluble inks effectively to produce a range of creative monoprints and collagraphs and combined prints.
  • Use art and design language confidently to describe your own work.
