About this course

Learn how to use a variety of different art mediums (paint, pastels, crayons etc) and a range of art and collage techniques to use together to create a visually exciting simple concertina collaged sketchbook.  

Over the duration of five weeks, you will be shown how to use a variety of mediums and different techniques to create a piece of colourful art full of collage and interesting textures and imagery. You will become confident with experimenting in collage, painting and drawing.

By the end of the course, you will:   

  • be able to identify and use mixed media terminology and vocabulary. 
  • have explored and created different mixed media art techniques. 
  • Have used a variety of art mediums. 
  • be able to demonstrate how to create a simple concertina sketchbook.  
  • have created a colourful and interesting piece of art that will act as a future reference for creating your own artwork.  
  • have gained skills to use in your own craft projects such as for card making, collage making, scrapbooking and journaling 

Resources required: 

  • An apron, big shirt or old clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on. 
  • A set of acrylic paints but essentially basic colours yellow, red, blue, black and white. Can be bought from The Range, The Works, B&M, Hobbycraft, Amazon.  
  • A set of different sized paint brushes. Can be bought from The Range, The Works, B&M, Hobbycraft, Amazon.  
  • A pack of baby wipes. 
  • A notebook or sketchbook (plain or lined paper – it’s just to keep notes in). 
  • Different interesting papers to use such as old magazines, scrap paper, used envelopes, white and coloured tissue paper, packing paper, paper bags, newspaper, old book pages, maps, old sewing pattern paper, lined and squared paper – no need to buy anything new, just use what you can find around you at home.  
  • A piece of sandpaper (B&Q, hardware shop, Tesco) 
  • A variety of pens, pencils, coloured pencils, soft pastels and felt tips  
  • Glue sticks 
  • Matt medium (only if you have it already) 
  • White Gesso (only if you have it already)
