This course is for absolute beginners who have an interest in playing the keyboard or piano. We will look at hand positioning, pulse, pitch and rhythm notation, structure, chords, scales, dynamics and articulation and expression marks - allowing you to play simple tunes as the course progresses.
By the end of the course, you will:
- Be able to play tunes with simple pitches and rhythms
- Be able to play to a pulse, both imagined and with a metronome
- Recognise and musically interpret in performance time and key structures
- Recognise and interpret in performance simple aspects of Western music notation
- Recognise and musically articulate in performance simple dynamic, expression, structure and direction terms
Resources required by attendees:
- Alfreds Basic Piano Course Book 1
- Piano/ Keyboard - these can be hired from Inspire Music for a small fee. Please ring 0115 977 3287
The course will not be running on the 24th May.
As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course. Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
