About this course

An introductory course on John Keats and his life and work. As this is an introductory course, we will cover some poetry techniques and how these are used by writers. No prior knowledge is necessary, and all poems are provided by the tutor.

We will look at the life and background of Keats and how he fits into the world of the Romantic Poets.  We will examine and discuss a selection of poetry focusing on his use of language to explore the themes of love and nature. During our classes we will look at a variety of techniques such as: rhyme, rhythm and alliteration.  There will be an overview of the Romantic movement to help you put the writer into a wider context.

Resources required:

  • Notebook and pen/pencil/highlighter.
  • An A4 wallet to keep your handouts in.
