About this course

This unit is designed for learners who wish to know how to use a spreadsheet to enter, edit and organise numerical and other data. 


The learner will:  

1   Use a spreadsheet to enter, edit and organise numerical and other data.

The learner can:  

1.1   Identify what numerical and other information is needed and how the spreadsheet should be structured to meet needs.

1.2   Enter and edit numerical and other data accurately 1.3   Store and retrieve spreadsheet files effectively, in line with local guidelines and conventions where available.    


The learner will:  

2   Use appropriate formulas and tools to summarise and display spreadsheet information.  

The learner can:  

2.1   Identify how to summarise and display spreadsheet information.

2.2   Use functions and formulas to meet calculation requirements/

2.3   Use spreadsheet tools and techniques to summarise and display information.


The learner will:

3   Select and use appropriate tools and techniques to present spreadsheet information effectively.

The learner can:  

3.1   Select and use appropriate tools and techniques to format spreadsheet cells, rows and columns.

3.2   Identify which chart or graph type to use to identify information.

3.3   Select and use appropriate tools and techniques to generate, develop and format charts and graphs.

3.4   Select and use appropriate page layout to present and print spreadsheet information.

3.5   Check information meets needs, using spreadsheet tools and making corrections as necessary

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

You should be redirected to the Inspire Online Enrolment Form after completing the Eventbrite booking.  If you are not redirected, please use the link supplied in the Eventbrite booking confirmation email.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:

  • Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield 
  • Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
  • Greater London
  • Greater Manchester
  • Liverpool City Region
  • Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland
  • Tees Valley
  • West of England
  • West Midlands
  • West Yorkshire


1) FREE - if you earn less than £25,000 gross salary or are on a means-tested benefit.

2) PAYMENT HELP AVAILABLE - if you earn more than £25,000 (annual gross salary) but are on a low-income, we might be able to help pay part or all of your course fees. Email: learning@inspireculture.org.uk for an application form or if you have any questions.

3) CO-FUNDED - if you are on a higher-income, the government will pay approximately half of your course fees.
