About this course

This course aims to introduce the learner to the variety of edible plants that grow wild on and around the Feel Good Gardens site (NG21 9JL), the identification of  common, edible plant species and their uses, including edible, medicinal wildlife and other. The course will also highlight conservation issues associated with foraging and the law behind the protection of our wild flora and fauna.

This course is suitable for beginners and is programmed in partnership with the Greenwood Community Forest Project.

With approximately 1500 wild flowers, described in the Collins guide to wild flowers, it can seem quite daunting to identify them all.

In order to successfully forage, identification is crucial, and could mean the difference between life and death.

Learn more about the different plant types, their characteristics and uses, today and throughout history, their identification and why wildflowers are important.

By the end of this course you will:

  • Be able to identify a minimum of 5 plant groups/ species,
  • Have an understanding of  their uses in a variety of applications, including  the kitchen.
  • Have an  understanding of conservation issues and the legal framework associated with harvesting wild plants and health and safety issues.

Resources required by Attendees:

You will need clothes suitable for outdoors collecting, including a waterproof  jacket and sturdy shoes / boots. You may wish to bring gloves to protect your hands.
