About this course

This course is designed to give anyone who has children or who works or comes into contact with SEND children, an overview of different communication strategies. They will have a greater understanding of what provisions could be used for children with communication difficulties at home and school. 


By the end of the course, you will have a greater understanding of what communication difficulties children can experience and how they can be helped through: 

  • Discussing what communication difficulties can involve – it’s not just about not being able to talk. 
  • Discussing how early communication can be aided and the acquisition of language. 
  • Discussing early support which can be accessed 
  • Thinking about EAL children, those coming into the country and learning English and those with multiple languages bring spoken at home 
  • Looking at resources available to help 
  • Discussing specific communication difficulties: speech, ASC, hearing impairment, physical difficulties 

 Please bring:

  • Notebook and pen to make notes. 

No previous experience is necessary. 


As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course.  The link for you to join the live sessions will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
