Indian Block Printing - Print and Stitch - Southwell Library - Adult Learning

About this course

This course is for anyone that loves fabrics and stitching, or those who want to have a go at creative projects.  Over the course you will gain the confidence to create prints with traditional carved blocks from India and explore how you embellish them with stitching and accessories (such as beads etc).    

You are required to provide your own substance to print onto, this can be fabric such as cotton and sewing kit including sewing threads and embroidery floss or twisted threads. 

By attending this course, you will understand the equipment and how to print with wooden blocks.  We will explore colour theory, design development and structure patterns to help you create your projects.  We will examine different artists and their use of patterns and identify where these can be included in our own work.  You will also develop your stitching skills, enabling you to complete your work.  

Resources Required by Attendees:

Fabric – this can be anything such as old bed linen, something you want to stitch onto 

Inferencing if fabric is thin (optional) 

Sewing kit, threads and beads etc
