About this course

Perfect for beginners, this short course will teach you how to create beautiful crafts with a summer theme. Using felt fabric, you'll design and sew unique pictures or create one-of-a kind decorations to brighten up your home.

On the course you will be taught different methods to construct and assemble your work, decorative techniques for embellishment and simple hand sewing techniques.

By the end of the course learners will have gained an understanding of:

  • Pattern Design & Application: designing and transferring paper patterns onto felt.
  • Basic Sewing Proficiency: Exhibit proficiency in basic sewing skills, including threading a needle, making knots, and hand sewing.
  • Felt Assembly Techniques: assembling felt designs accurately using basic hand sewing techniques.
  • Embellishment skills: utilizing buttons, beads and stitches to create design elements.
  • Basic Embroidery stitches: executing common stitches such as running stitch, blanket stitch, backstitch, and chain stitch.
  • Creative Design Implementation: creating unique and personalized felt designs that reflect individual creativity, effectively combining patterns, colours, and embellishments.

Resources required:

  • a selection of coloured felt pieces (I would suggest coming with a few pieces of yellow, green and another colour such as pink or orange – once you have decided upon which design/designs you wish to create, this can inform your future purchase of felt so that you are not wasting any).
  • a selection of seed beads & small beads
  • a variety of sequins
  • some small white buttons
  • thin ribbon or ricrac
  • a pair of small or medium sized fabric scissors
  • a basic sewing kit with needles & pins
  • dressmakers’ thread (to match felt being used)
  • a selection of embroidery thread/silks (in colours similar to the felt being used)
  • an embroidery needle
  • a pencil
