About this course

Using your own gel prints you’ll learn how to create a doodle and pattern-altered book. You can either bring along your gel prints or use the ones that will be created in the first session.  Over the duration of five weeks, you will be shown how to recycle a hard-backed book, changing it into a book of colourful patterns and doodles. By using a variety of mediums and different techniques, you will be enhancing your gel prints and filling your altered book with them. We shall explore surface pattern design, discuss the importance of patterns in a cultural and global context and learn how doodling is good for your mental health. You will be creating your own patterns and doodling within the altered book.

By the end of the course, you will:

  • be able to demonstrate a range of techniques to create patterns and doodled art
  • be able to demonstrate the use of different mediums
  • explain why the use of pattern is important in a cultural and global context
  • identify how doodling and pattern creating is linked to good mental health and wellbeing
  • be able to explain why art is important and how it relates to culture, context, society and to you
  • plan your next steps as an artist including finding new opportunities to practice and develop your skills.
