About this course

Have you always wanted to grow your own but not sure where to start?

If so this course is for you!


This course aims to build your confidence to plan a growing space, read a planting table, plant your favourite fruits or vegetables, and give correct care for plants. The course will use the garden space at Middle Street Resource Centre. Part of each session will also be indoors.


The course outlines the steps of planning, measuring, seeding, planting and plant care.


What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

You will be able to:

•Recognise vegetable plants and gardening tools.

•Know what time of year to grow using a planting calendar.

•Know of how much soil and fertilizer to use.

•Make a plant care chart.

•Measure the correct amount of water, the height and length of the produce grown.

•Label plants.

•Design garden signs.

•Prepare simple meals from recipes using the produce you have grown.


Resources required by attendees:

  • Suitable clothing for gardening.
  • A pen and paper.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
