This course aims to improve your English skills and your confidence in using these.
If you are new to learning English as a second language, an ESOL course will be more suitable for you, and these are listed on our website.
Our experienced teaching staff will help you to improve your reading, writing, and speaking and listening skills. You will start by doing an initial assessment to decide with your tutor which level you will be working at from Entry level 3 to Level 2. You will be assessed near the end of the course on these three elements and once you have successfully completed these you will achieve a City and Guilds Functional Skills English qualification.
You will be required to travel to one of Nottinghamshire’s libraries to taker the assessment in the week commencing the 21st July 2025 and your tutor will discuss this with you further during the course.
This course requires your attendance at 2 weekly online sessions over 13 weeks in order for you to be able to complete the course successfully.
All resources that you need will be supplied by the tutor, but you may wish to have your own notebook to work in too.
As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course. Details on how you join the live sessions will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.
To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:
You should be redirected to the Inspire Online Enrolment Form after completing the Eventbrite booking. If you are not redirected, please use the link supplied in the Eventbrite booking confirmation email.
To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
