About this course

Discover the art of capturing the dynamic essence of urban environments in our immersive course, "Drawing and Painting Cityscapes." This hands-on class is designed for both beginners and more confident learners who want to explore the vibrant world of cityscape art using watercolours or acrylics. Create your own cityscape masterpiece from initial sketches to the final painting, with personalised guidance and feedback from our experienced tutor. 


This course will equip you with the skills and confidence to transform urban landscapes into stunning works of art. 


Master the basics of drawing and painting, including perspective, composition, and colour theory, tailored specifically for urban scenes.: 

  • Analysing examples of cityscapes paintings and different styles 
  • Colour mixing and composition studies 
  • Surface preparation and sketching 
  • Painting techniques: layering, impasto, the dry brush 
  • Complete a  painting on canvas 
  • Protect your painting by varnishing it 

Learners will create their own cityscape artwork under expert guidance. By the end of the course learners will complete at least one work on canvas. They will have fun by experimenting with techniques and tools and become more confident in using acrylics. 


Learners should bring:

  • Acrylic paper/sketch pad, A4 canvas, white gesso, a range of synthetic paint brushes, photo reference, metallic palette knife, watercolour or acrylic paint (student grade) 
  • Red (Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red,  
  • Yellow (Lemon and Cadmiun Yellow),  
  • Blue (Ultramarine, and Cerulean),  
  • Magenta , Turquoise, Titanium white 

The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
