What are the aims of the course?
This basic digital skills course will enable learners to initiate and participate in digital and online activities safely in real-life contexts, such as online shopping, banking and booking appointments.
What will learners achieve by the end of the course?
1. Browse and buy things online on a familiar website, such as Amazon or Asda.com.
- Work out the total spend including delivery charges.
- Use addition to work out the total cost.
2. Work out savings when online shopping.
- Calculate a 10% / 50% discount.
- Use a sort and a filter on a comparison website.
3. Familiarise themselves with what is required for online/mobile banking.
- Enter payment details by using 1:1 correspondence.
- Select the correct date format.
4 Plan and complete basic a budgeting sheet for daily life expenses.
- Order 3 shopping items from cheapest to most expensive when delivery charges are included.
- Use an online calculator to add the cost of a basket of food.
- Work out the change from (£1 / £5 / £20).
5. Book GP and other types of appointments online, as well as buy online train tickets.
- Select the cheapest ticket by entering the correct date and time.
- Work out journey times.
What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course?
None - this course is designed to support learners new to digital technology.
All learners will need their own smartphone as lots of tips and tricks will be shared.
*This course is for people who don’t already have a level 2 qualification in maths (GCSE C/4 or above) or don’t feel confident with maths. You will self-declare this on the enrolment form.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
