About this course

On this follow-on course, we will create a combination of Granny Squares in different shapes and styles each week. You will build upon existing skills from the Crochet for Beginners and Next Steps courses to design basic Granny Squares.  You will gain an insight into the different designs you can produce from forming some basic stitches and learn how to produce your own creations. We will look at the history behind the name of Granny Squares and create a combination of Granny Squares in different shapes and styles, such as: Basic Granny Square, Antique Vintage squares, oblong & circle shapes, patterns showing swirls, spirals and round Granny Squares.

Learners must have some skills in performing crochet stitches, this is not a beginner’s course

By the end of the course, you will show secure knowledge of how to perform a variety of stitches in different shapes and styles.  You will work on different projects using a combination of Granny Squares and basic crochet stitches.  You will also solidify your knowledge of English and US terminology and conversion sizes for crochet hooks.

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

Creating Basic Granny Squares to Antique Vintage squares, to oblong & circle shapes, to pattern showing swirls, spirals and round Granny Squares using a crochet hook and yarn, and history behind the name of Crochet Granny Squares covered. Understand the different terminology used for English and American Crochet stitches and the Crochet Hook Size Conversion for Metric, US & UK.

Learners should bring a drink – water or juice, notebook and pen, and a hook size 4/4.5/or 5 and yarn/wool
