About this course

Open a whole world of colour and pattern with this innovative approach to collage. Step by step instructions demonstrate how to create countless patterns on paper or canvas and how to use colour to make your collages come alive. You will be taught how gestural brushstrokes and mark-making gives the impression of spontaneity in your compositions. You will benefit from this course as your style of painting will become looser, full of energy and colour. Experiment the pure joy of mark-making by playing with colour and texture using a combination of different art materials and techniques on a single work.  This course is suitable for Beginners or those with more experience. 


The emphasis of the course is to focus on editing, colour balance, tone and composition. Explore process: techniques of mark making with complementary and monochromatic colour palette to achieve interesting visual effects  


Working out innovative, dynamic compositions, full of energy and colours  


Using a bright, colourful palette, with dynamic and bold mark making  


Painting techniques: impasto, scumbling, sgrafitto, layering and blending

Resources required by attendees:

  • Acrylic or watercolour paper, white acrylic gesso, 30x 40cm stretched canvas, palette knife (not plastic), glycerin*, spray bottle, synthetic brushes, apron, baby wipes, cotton rags , photo references, inks, acrylic paint: 
  • Red (Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red,  
  • Yellow (Lemon and Cadmiun Yellow),  
  • Blue (Ultramarine, and Cerulean),  
  • Magenta , Turquoise, Titanium white 

The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
