An introductory course to two Nottinghamshire authors exploring their poetry and prose (a short story by D H Lawrence). As this is an introductory course, we will cover some poetry techniques and how these are used by writers. No prior knowledge is necessary, and all poems and extracts are provided by the tutor.
We will look at the life and background of Lord Byron and some short poems about love and beauty. Towards the end of the course, we will consider the life of D H Lawrence and explore a short story: “Goose Fayre.” During our classes we will look at a variety of techniques such as: rhyme, rhythm and alliteration. There will be a brief overview of the Romantic poets and the Imagist movement to help you put the writers into a wider context.
Feel confident about analysing poetry and outline how writers use different techniques in their work. You will be able to describe the life of Byron and Lawrence and how their life influenced their work
