Join us to explore the beauty of nature through art and discover the joy of capturing botanical wonders on canvas. Whether you're picking up a paintbrush for the first time or looking to refine your skills, this course offers a comprehensive introduction to the vibrant world of botanical art. 


In this hands-on course, you'll learn the fundamentals of drawing and painting plants, flowers, and foliage using watercolour or acrylic paints. We'll cover essential techniques such as sketching, colour mixing, layering, and adding intricate details to bring your botanical subjects to life. Our step-by-step guidance ensures that you build confidence and develop your unique artistic style in a supportive and creative environment.  


You will be guided step-by-step to build your skills and confidence, focusing on subjects like composition and mark-making using rhythm, repetition and intuition: 

  • Select appropriate photo reference 
  • Botanical artist research and observing good examples of work 
  • Ensure pleasing composition with simple rules  
  • Sketching, drawing and painting the composition 
  • Drawing and painting techniques 
  • Protect your painting by varnishing it 

Please bring:

  • Acrylic paper/sketch pad, A4 canvas, white gesso, a range of synthetic paint brushes, photo reference, metallic palette knife, watercolour paint or acrylic paint (student grade)  
  • Red (Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red,  
  • yellow (Lemon and Cadmiun Yellow),  
  • Blue (Ultramarine, and Cerulean),  
  • Magenta , Turquoise, Titanium white 

The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
