About this course

Discover how to blend modern artistic styles with the timeless beauty of birds, creating unique and striking artworks in acrylic. Through step-by-step guidance and hands-on practice, you will enhance your artistic abilities, whether you are a beginner or looking to refine your skills.. You will complete several small paintings in acrylic, based on a photo reference. Working from photographs, tuition is provided through a mixture of demonstrations and exercises according to your needs, as well as informal group critiques and discussions, all helping to increase your knowledge and enjoyment of nature painting. 


The course covers tips and tricks on how to successfully paint different birds in nature. 

  • Selecting appropriate photo references 
  • Analysing examples of birds painting in the work of different artists 
  • Colour mixing: saturated versus non saturated colours 
  • Depicting details: hard edges versus soft edges 
  • Layering technique 

By the end of the course, you will have completed several beautiful bird paintings to proudly display or gift. You will become more confident in painting using acrylics. 


Resources required:

  • Acrylic / Watercolor paper/sketch pad, white gesso, a range of synthetic paint brushes, photo reference, metallic palette knife, acrylic paint 
  • Red (Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red,  
  • Yellow (Lemon and Cadmiun Yellow),  
  • Blue (Ultramarine, and Cerulean),  
  • Magenta , Turquoise, Titanium white 

The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
