About this course

This course is suitable for parents, grandparents, family members and people who care and support a child with (or without) a diagnosis of autism who have previously completed Part One of the Autism – Practical Tips course. This is an on line course where you will have an opportunity to follow on and explore and discuss further topics associated with autism in the comfort of your own home.

What will be covered on the course?

Common misconceptions – stereotyping, the media. What can we do to help others understand?
Communication and social interaction. Discuss the links between speech and language and social development. Let’s get creative and develop resources to help bridge the different ways of thinking and learning
Sensory processing differences, diet and developing constructive environments to help ease anxiety and stress
Strategies to help with transitions, ie moving home, education settings, change in family circumstances.
Getting involved with individual support plans using a person centred approach.
How legislation underpins support for individuals with autism

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

By the end of the course all learners will have had the opportunity to gain a further understanding of autism and explore strategies that support with misconceptions, communication difficulties and transition. Learners will be able to understand more about sensory differences, diet and person centred planning. Learners will have the opportunity to be part of a supportive network of people who have the happiness and well-being of individuals with autism at heart.

No prior skills or knowledge is required for the course just a willingness to listen and share ideas.

You will need:

Please ensure you have a quiet and private space to access this course. The discussions and topics can be of a personal nature and it is important when sharing strategies to help children we can uphold their privacy and ensure safeguarding practices.

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course. Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
