Children in Nottinghamshire can access instruments and singing lessons through their primary and secondary schools, as part of our Inspire Music teaching scheme.
Lessons take place in schools during the school day. Instruments on offer include piano, drums, guitars, plus singing lessons. Lessons can be for individuals or a group of pupils. The range of lessons will depend on what your local school has chosen to offer – contact them for details.

If your child loves to sing you can arrange singing lessons in school through the Inspire Music teaching service.
Primary phase: each district and borough has a representative in our Primary Singing Hub Schools network. Find out more about their activities HERE
Secondary phase: each district has a school which leads on our National Youth Choirs of Great Britain partnership programme. To find out more about our vocal partnerships and learn more about our secondary singing strategy for Nottinghamshire, please email nottsmusichub@inspireculture.org.uk
If your child is having music lessons in school through the Inspire Music teaching scheme, you can loan a musical instrument from us for them to use.
We have a wide range of good quality instruments available.
Key information:
Contact your child’s school to arrange the loan of an instrument.
Inspire Music has a remission scheme to support children and young people by remitting the cost of Inspire Music teaching (based on one shared 20-minute lesson). Funded tuition is provided through Nottinghamshire Music Education Hub (NMEH).
* The school will pay a fee of £34.96 and then NMEH will fund the remainder for as long as the child remains eligible.
* Includes free instrument hire (maximum of 1 instrument per child)
* Maximum remission of 10 minutes per child per week
* If a child qualifies for our remission scheme at the point that they start tuition, then that exemption will be in force for the entire academic year.
Remission scheme eligibility
The scheme is available for the following:
· Children and young people who are eligible for free school meals
· Children and young people whose parent/carer is in receipt of Working Tax Credit – NHS Exemption (a copy of the NHS Tax Credit exemption certificate is required). Please note that we are unable to accept a medical or maternity exemption certificate.
· Children and young people whose parent/carer is in receipt of Universal Credit – with a monthly take home pay lower than £935 (evidence required)
· Looked After Children (this does not include those young people who have been adopted).
Support for children and young people identified as having Special Educational Needs is considered on a case by case basis. Teachers will notify us if they feel a child needs further support.
Please inform your school at the earliest opportunity if you feel you are eligible for this support.
