Traineeships (16-19)

Want to get your foot in the door of your dream career? Thinking of your next steps after education?

Traineeships are a great way to gain high quality experience in an industry that you are interested in. A traineeship is a skills development programme that includes a significant work experience placement and contains vital training and study to support you to develop your employability skills and ensure you are ready for the world of work or further study, such as moving into an apprenticeship.

What will you receive?

As a Trainee, you will receive:

  • A high-quality work placement of at least 70 hours.
  • A workplace mentor.
  • Tutor support from Inspire.
  • Flexible hours that suit both you and the employer.
  • The opportunity to work towards a maths and English qualification, should you need them.
  • An Employability Level 2 qualification, upon completion of the course.
  • Bursaries, dependent on age and meeting eligibility circumstances.

Eligibility

To start a traineeship, you'll need to:

  • be eligible to work in England.
  • have little to no work experience, and be unemployed.
  • be aged between 16 and 24, or 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Not ready or not eligible for a traineeship? An important part of our offer is providing high quality information, advice and guidance about your next steps. This could be further learning, your journey into employment or the development of your career.

Important Information

Traineeships can last from 6 weeks to 1 year, though most last for 6 months or less.

Work placements as part of the traineeship are unpaid; however, you can get support with travel and other expenses, depending on your circumstances.
