Children's author readings

Our friends at the award-winning independent publishers Scallywag Press have kindly recorded a few of their authors reading their stories;

First up is Rose Robbins, an award-winning Author/Illustrator based right here in Nottingham. Here, Rose reads her book Talking Is Not My Thing. 

The autistic sister of this delightful sibling duo knows what she wants to say, but can't say it out loud. However, there is plenty of fun she and her brother can have together without verbal communication, and she is often one step ahead of him!

Next up is Elena Arevalo Melville reading her book Umbrella.

Clara has gone to the park, but there's nobody to play with. She finds an umbrella on the ground and does a good deed by putting it on a bench. The umbrella says 'thank you' and invites Clara to make a wish. So unfolds a magical chain of events where kindness and forgiveness go hand-in-hand.

And finally, Derek Keilty reads the first chapter of his book (co-written with Mark Elvins) Flyntlock Bones: The Sceptre of the Pharaohs. 

'Welcome to the Black Hound - a ship full o' the cleverest pirate investigators ya ever set eyes upon.' The captain pauses. 'You OK, lad? Ya gone paler than a full moon.'

When young Flynn becomes too old to stay at the Baskervile orphanage, he applies for a job as cabin boy on the Black Hound. But once aboard, the dreadful reality sinks in – he's on a pirate ship! However, with nowhere else in the world to go, he has no option but to give it a try.
