Inspire Learning celebrates best GCSE results to date

Inspire Learning’s provision for young people aged 16-24 achieved their best GCSE results to date this Summer, achieving a 48% percent pass rate in Maths and 35% in English. This surpassed the national post-16 outcomes of an average 30% pass in English and 21% pass in Maths.

Inspire Learning’s study programmes for young people aged 16-24, delivered in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council and the Education Skills Funding Agency, are designed to give young people a first step on to further study, employment, traineeships or apprenticeships. Young people work towards a recognised qualification, plus have the opportunity to re-sit GCSE Maths and English.

Most candidates failed or achieved a grade 3 (equivalent to a Grade ‘D’ in the old marking system) in their previous years of education, and some did not attend school. Some face difficult barriers to learning such as learning difficulties, disabilities, anxiety and social and emotional issues.

Amongst successful candidates were Owen Betteridge, Inspire’s first candidate to ever receive a grade 7 in English. Owen also achieved a grade 5 in Maths and has now secured a place at college to study IT.

We know we have already started opening windows of opportunity for our young people. Each year our results just keep getting better and better and I’m proud to be part of the team that can now say we’re well above the national averages for GCSE passes!”.

Young people can enrol on to an Inspire Learning study programme at any time during the year. Study programmes are delivered from 10 bases across Nottinghamshire: Arnold, Hucknall, Sutton in Ashfield, Eastwood, Mansfield, Newark, Ollerton, Retford, Worksop and Stapleford.
