National Lottery grant awarded for exciting heritage project set to cook up a treat

Inspire has received a National Lottery grant of £10k for an exciting heritage project, Home Cooked Heritage, in Nottinghamshire. Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project focuses on uncovering and sharing the food heritage of Nottinghamshire; family recipes, food producers, social history and what food means to us all now.

Supported through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), the project will enable local young people from two schools to visit Nottinghamshire Archives and work with the materials, to both learn about, and be inspired by, food stories. They will work with heritage expert James Wright, performer-storyteller Nicky Rafferty and visual artist Clare Taylor, to produce creative and literacy responses to the heritage materials.

Five adult groups in public workshops, held across five Inspire venues will also work with the artists and create a response.

Works produced by the participants will be curated into a touring exhibition that will be shown in Inspire Library Galleries across the county and made into a book that will go back into the Nottinghamshire Archives to be discovered by food historians of the future.
