The North Nottinghamshire Youth Dance Company (NNYDC), based at the Old Library in Mansfield, have been invited to perform at The Royal Ballet School’s Primary Steps graduation event held at their Covent Garden home on Saturday 26 May.
NNYDC, a national partner of The Royal Ballet, have been chosen to perform at the event after impressing the programme manager at last year’s TOLFest, run by the Inspire Youth Arts team. Five NNYDC dancers over the past few years have progressed from the Mansfield Primary Steps group and the company, made up of talented local dancers ranging from 11-17 years old, are regarded as an excellent example of how the young dancers can progress.
The Primary Steps programme is The Royal Ballet’s national project which works with junior schools to broaden access, and encourage engagement in ballet targeting areas of social, economic and cultural diversity. Graduating students will take part in a performance as part of the ceremony and get to watch a selected number of showcase performances from the schemes national partners.
NNYDC take part in weekly contemporary and choreography technique sessions at the OldLibrary in Mansfield, and the company aims to train young dancers in contemporary dance, enabling them to work creatively and perform at regional and national dance platforms throughout the year. The sessions support Dance4's Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) in Dance programme and is supported by the Inspire Youth Arts team.
Hayley Ross, Dance Leader for NNYDC said "They all have a great understanding of being a part of a company and what is expected from them, along with a lovely technique and fabulous creativity, ready for the next step in their dance training. They have all blossomed as North Notts Company members and it’s such a pleasure to be a part of their journey and showcase to the next generation what can be achieved”.
NNYDC have also been invited by Dance4 to perform at the regional dance platform 'Routes' on Saturday 23 June in Nottingham and will also be performing with Tom Dale Company at Urban Explorers on 3 July at Nottingham Playhouse.
The company recruits new dancers through auditions and the next round will be held in September 2018, for more information contact iya@inspireculutre.org.uk
