Four Fantastic Theatre Thursdays

From a laugh-out-loud look at our undying obsession with football and squidgy tentacled Martians, to a battle between love and religion, and a roadshow devoted to tat…the Inspire Youth Arts team are offering a host of fun and affordable comedy treats at the Old Library theatre in Mansfield throughout the spring and summer.

With four shows up for grabs there really is something for everyone, and for three of the shows you can book your tickets in advance for FREE and just pay what you can on the night.

Andy Dawson, Manager at Inspire Youth Arts said, “We feel it’s really important for people in and around Mansfield to be able to come and see quality theatre productions, and by offering tickets for free, with the option to pay what you can on the night, we’re hoping more people might come along to see something different”.

The season of shows kicks off next week on 3 May with The Beautiful Game performed by Next Door Dance – a look at the hilarious highs and lows of being a British football fan. A show for all the family, and even if you don’t like football they’ll convince you of its charms and even attempt to explain the offside rule.

The critically-acclaimed Pantaloons invade the stage on 10 May in this funny yet faithful new adaptation of the H. G. Wells’ science fiction classic War of the Worlds. Musical instruments, puppetry and, um, enthusiasm recreate the deadly heat-rays, giant fighting machines, squidgy tentacled Martians and interplanetary warfare on an epic scale.

Back down to earth and The Thelmas and Ovalhouse present Coconut by Guleraana Mir (28 June). Following the life of Rumi, a British Pakistani woman who spends more time enjoying fine wine and bacon than being at the mosque…watch as the arrival of a new partner spins Rumi’s world off its axis.

To round off the season Milk Bottle Productions present The Museum of Tat Roadshow (19 July) – it’s like your favourite antiques based tv programme, just not on the tv and devoted to tat. Bring along your tat to be valued, classified and destroyed by the experts.
