Keyworth Library Re-opening Ceremony

Published 29th June 2017

Keyworth Library was officially reopened by the Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, Councillor John Handley, in a ceremony on Saturday 17th June.  The library was packed with visitors to the official opening event, who enjoyed refreshments and speeches by Councillor Handley; Councillor John Cottee, the local County Councillor and chair of the Communities and Place Committee; and Inspire CEO Peter Gaw.

I hope this investment results in greater use by the whole community and I know
the library service is always keen to support events, activities and
volunteering to make this a vibrant community centre for all to benefit.

Councillor John Handley

The library has been refurbished by Inspire, who deliver libraries on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council.

At Inspire we’re excited to have completed the development of another library and
the opportunity it gives us to create a modern, inviting space for the people
of Keyworth. This is another important aspect of our mission to provide
inspiring centres for reading, learning, culture and community activity.

Peter Gaw, Inspire’s CEO

The new look library features:

  • A modern layout with new shelving and furnishings
  • Extensive internal and external redecoration
  • New heating, lighting, and flooring
  • New accessible public toilet
  • Automatic doors for improved accessibility
  • New suspended ceiling grid

In addition, the library has a range of new book stock.

After the ceremony, the visitors enjoyed cake, and the lively and engaging story telling of Nicky Rafferty.  Children created secret treasure boxes while adult visitors enjoyed the new look library.

Keyworth and District Local History Society were also at the Opening Ceremony promoting the work they do.

Hoping to make the most of the newly improved facilities, the staff at Keyworth Library are enjoying welcoming back their customers, old and joining up new ones.  They would also like to invite the community to come and see what Keyworth Library offers.
