Inspire’s Education Library Service will be celebrating 10 years of the Brilliant Book Award at Mansfield Central Library with the 2016 winning author Kim Slater.
The Education Library Service is part of Inspire who deliver culture, learning and libraries in Nottinghamshire. The service offers schools a cost effective way to buy books to support the curriculum and promote reading for pleasure.
Nottingham based author Kim, will be presented with
the prize for her book ‘Smart’, which was voted as the 2016 winner of the
Brilliant Book Award. Students in
participating schools in Nottinghamshire,
Nottingham City and Derbyshire read all of the shortlisted books and vote
for their favourite title.
Also at Thursday’s event which will be
attended by around 80 students from schools across the county
including Manor Academy, Mansfield and Rushcliffe School, West Bridgford;
Rachel Marshall, Development Librarian at the Education Library Service commented;
“Over the last ten years we have celebrated the work of so many wonderful authors through the Brilliant Book Awards. We are really proud to involve schools and students from the initial nominations through to the voting stage where they vote for their favourite book to decide who will be the winner. We are particularly excited to be celebrating ten years of the award, in this our first year as Inspire – and with a Nottingham based author as the winner of this wonderful award”.
The event is sponsored by The Bookcase, an independent bookshop in Lowdham.
