Taking place across a number of Inspire libraries our family music concerts were designed to provide a fun and accessible musical experience for the whole family to enjoy, aimed specifically at children aged 5 - 11 years.
All our musical events offered a unique and fun-filled opportunity for families to share the excitement of live music. After the performance, the audience had the chance to meet the musicians and try out some of the instruments.
Movie Music Mayhem was the first themed concert in our family concert series. The concert was held at West Bridgford Library on Saturday 17 June 2018. Our jazzy swing band, The Hubs, performed a show packed with music from Hollywood's greatest hits, featuring big screen favourites from Harry Potter, Superman, Chicken Run and many more!
Superhero Spectacular was the second themed concert. The concerts were held at Mansfield Central Library (Saturday 29 September 2018), Worksop Library (Saturday 1 December 2018) and finally at Kirkby in Ashfield Library (Saturday 26 January 2019). The Hubs, had the audience cheering along as they performed pieces from everyone's favourite superhero stories including music from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and heroic themes from Star Wars and Batman.
The Impossible Journey was the third and final themed concert for year one. The concerts were held at Beeston Library (on Saturday 9 February 2019), Arnold Library (on Saturday 9 March 2019) and finally at Mansfield Central Library (on Saturday 30 March 2019). The Hubs, were lost in time and engaged the audience on a journey to find their way home. Whizzing through time and space, the band performed music from Doctor Who and Back to the Future, alongside popular classics from Beethoven, Gershwin and Elvis.
There were 291 children in attendance across all the performances with 580 audience members in total.
Blast Off was the first themed concert in our second series of familly concert. The concert was held at Retford Library (Saturday 8 June 2019), West brdigford Library (Sunday 30 June, 2019) and Mansfield Central Library (Saturday 13 July, 2019). The Hubs performed music from Star Wars, E.T. and Doctor Who, alongside popular classics from composers such as Richard Strauss.
The Deep Blue Sea was the second themed concert. The concerts were held at Bingham Library (Saturday 12 October 2019), and Beeston Library (Saturday 9 November 2019). The concert was also due to take place at Worksop Library on Saturday 30 November 2019 however due to flooding at the venue this show was unfortunately cancelled. The Hubs performed music from Pirates of the Caribbean, The Little Mermaid and Jaws. Plus, watery themed hits including The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine, The Beach Boys’ Surfin’ USA and many more.
Movie Music Mayhen was the third and final themed concert for year two. The concerts were held at Newark Library (on Saturday 8 February 2020), and Sutton-in-Ashfield Library (on Saturday 7 March 2020). The concert was scheduled to be performed at Mansfield Central Library (on Saturday 28 March 2020) however all events were cancelled as we entered the COVID-19 pandemic. The Hubs presented a concert packed with Hollywood's greatest musical hits, featuring music from big-screen favourites Toy Story, The Greatest Showman, Harry Potter, The Avengers, and many more.
There were 201 children in attendance across all the performances with 407 audience members in total.
The Covid-19 pandemic meant that family concerts had to take a pause as in-person events were unable to take place.
Family concerts were back in year 4 with Brilliant Brass and Fantastic Fanfares! A fun family concert for ages 5 - 11 packed with favourite brass tunes. Inspire Music’s very own Brass Quintet played a selection of exciting and familiar songs including rousing Brass fanfares, lively Glenn Miller and music from the Royal Fireworks. The concert explored the life, history and origins of all things brass. Brilliant Brass also continued in to year 5.
After the performance, children were able to meet the musicians and try out some of the instruments for themselves.
Jumpin' Jazz visited six Inspire Libraries throughout year 5. Inspire Music’s Jazz Band played a selection of famous and familiar pieces including Gershwin, Glenn Miller, Sinatra and Louis Armstrong. It was an energetic introduction to live music that got everyone's toes tapping! As usual, children could meet the musicians and try out the instruments after the performance.
Inspire Music's rock and roll band took everyone on an exciting adventure through the 60s in this energetic family fun concert for ages 5 - 11. Children learned the hand jive, how to twist and much more! Packed with classics such as All Day and all of the Night, The Beatles’ I Saw her Standing There and Yellow Submarine’.
As usual, children could meet the musicians and try out the instruments after the performance.
Our Inspire Festival of Tunes was a fun way to explore some well known festivals and great music, giving children and their families a trip to remember. Reliving those summer vibes in the warmth and comfort of our very own libraries with tunes such as Coldplay's Yellow and Take That's Shine.
This family fun concert series aimed to introduce children ages 5 -11 to music we all love and explain the story along the way. After the performance children were invited to meet the musicians and try out the instruments for themselves.
