Care Squares: Exhibition Highlights

Nottinghamshire Crafters came together to create 275 stunning blankets and thousands of colourful Care Squares, wrapping the walls and shelf tops of Mansfield Library in an enormous 'woolly hug'!

Thank you, to all who got involved!

We would like to say a very big THANK YOU for the kindness and generosity of crafters across the county - and beyond.

The Care Squares Exhibition was on display from 14 August to 24 September 2024, celebrating the hard work of all the generous crafters who donated their time, skill and lots and lots of wool!

Designer Jane Withers sitting at her desk in her design studio

Nottinghamshire knitwear designer Jane Withers created a striking blanket design to inspire everyone to get creative with wool for a good cause. Inspire: Culture, Learning and Libraries, Your Health Notts, Newark and Sherwood District Council, Dementia Action Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and Creative Lives supported crafters to make knitted and crocheted squares into homely warm blankets for people to cherish.

Three piles of knitted squares, labelled 'Stitch Me'

We hosted Blanket-a-thons in local libraries and at Craft Groups across Nottinghamshire, where crafters could get together and combine their Care Squares into beautiful blankets. During the exhibition, visitors took home to stitch up bundles of donated squares, and turned them into even more gorgeous blankets for our display. Thank you, once again, to everyone who generously gave their time and talent!

At the end of the exhibition these stunning blankets made their way to care homes and hospitals across the county.
