The service was first awarded National Accreditation in 2017 and has received the news that the award has been retained six years later, as part of the Archive Service Accreditation’s second review.
Archive Service Accreditation is the UK standard for archive services awarded by a national partnership of archives organisations. Standards, schemes, and frameworks help archives to manage and improve their efficiency and effectiveness through external validation, and by identifying good practice.
Achieving accredited status demonstrates that Nottinghamshire Archives has met clearly defined national standards relating to management and resourcing; the care of its unique collections, embedding inclusive practice, digital preservation delivery, environment and sustainability, and audiences and future user expectations.
Inspire Nottinghamshire Archives situated on Castle Meadow Road Nottingham plays a key role in protecting the heritage of Nottingham and its county, preserving almost five million documents dating from 1155 to over 28,000 photos on the Inspire Picture Archive taken in the past and during the present day. The service was recently part of an exciting commission by the IWM 14-18 NOW Legacy Fund which saw young Hip Hop dancers explore themes of conflict using resources from Nottinghamshire Archives.
Peter Gaw, Chief Executive Officer at Inspire said: “I’m proud that our team have the highest standard of practice in archive services. I’m delighted that we have been able to retain national recognition that we are trusted in the management of our unique collections, providing access to the community and the expertise to deliver such a wonderful service”
