Inspire Accessibility Statement

This website is run by Inspire Culture, Learning and Libraries. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.

For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).

How accessible this website is

We had our website audited in 2021 by external accessibility specialists, HeX Productions in order to give our users an understanding of where they may experience issues.

Our website agency Rock, Kitchen, Harris made changes to improve our accessibility. Inspire staff are trained to ensure website content is accessible. Additional devlopment is underway to address the content structure in parts of our website (May 2024).

We have also undertaken an audit of the following sub-websites and work is also underway to address accessibility;

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

We are committed to making our website accessible, in accordance with The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications)(No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

As part of this commitment we are undergoing a full review of the website. Our level of compliance will be detailed here once the accessibility audit and improvements are completed.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The Public Sector Body Accessibility Regulations 2018 do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

PDFs and Word documents are being reviewed and updated to meet accessibility standards (May 2024)

Live video

Live video streams do not have captions. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.2.4 (captions, live).

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Third-party sites

Eventbrite - our ticketing provider designs, develops, and tests their website for compliance with accessibility standards, including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level A and AA. Read their accessibility statement here.

Our website links to some third-party sites, which are not currently required by law to comply with The Public Sector Body Accessibility Regulations 2018 as they are not Public Sector bodies. We have outlined below how we can help you access this content in an accessible way;

Inspire Community Makers - we are working with the providers of this website, TickBox Marketing to address the accessibility of this website.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

Firstly, as mentioned above, our website had a full audit in 2021. This used automated assessment tools, having it reviewed by accessibility specialists, and assessed using assistive technology (such as screen readers, voice navigation and keyboard navigation).

We made accessibility improvements and trained staff. We are currently re-auditing our website to ensure it continues to meet accessibility requirements (December 2023). This work will take place in 2024.

This statement was initially prepared on 18 September 2020, followed by updates in April 2021, December 2023, and this latest update in May 2024.

It will be reviewed again as we make any changes or improvements to accessibility.

This Accessibility Statement was produced by HeX Productions, and has been updated by Inspre, Culture, Learning and Libraries (2024).
